In 1889, the first limousine car was introduced in Paris, France. The word limousine actually comes from the French word “limousin”, which was an ancient province full of farmland and shepherds. In the early 19th century, wealthy families used horse carriages, especially to attend social events. Therefore, the origin of limousines is based on incorporating protection for the coachman who remembered the layers of these peasants.
However, over time, other groups began to adopt larger seating areas, and “stretchy limousines” became commonplace. The exterior of the limousines accentuate the appearance and the length can accommodate a good number of guests. Vehicles converted into new elastic limousines include the East German Trabant, the Volkswagen Beetle, the Fiat Panda and the Citroën 2CV. The limousine has a history even before cars were invented and the first stretched limousine for cars dates back nearly 100 years.
Someone noticed that the closed part of the cars looked like the hood of a traditional Limousin cape. Some people choose to rent a limousine to go to school, to sporting and social events and to summer camps, but what is the origin of the first stretchy limousine? In the 1960s and 1970s, major brands such as Mercedes, Rolls Royce, Chrysler, Lincoln and Cadillac included the manufacture of limousines in their catalogs. A luxury sedan with a very long wheelbase (with more than four doors) driven by a professional driver is called an elastic limousine. It wasn't until 1928 that a company from Fort Smith, Arkansas, called Armbruster created the first “stretchy limousine”.
While certain audiences prefer the luxury sedan, the SUV-based format has entered the limousine market in recent years. An alternative etymology speculates that some of the first drivers wore a limousine style cape in the driver's open compartment, to protect themselves from inclement weather. In German-speaking countries, a limousine is simply a sedan, while a car with a longer wheelbase is called a Pullman Limousine. A customer can choose to rent a limousine that suits the occasion for which they are renting it, not to mention unparalleled comfort.
Around 1928, a coach company called Armbruster created an elastic limousine in Fort Smith, Arkansas. In particular, airport shuttle services are often referred to as limousine services, although they often use minibuses.
